Commission Me...

If you like my style of work and would like a commissioned piece of artwork then I would love to hear from you. I'm available to do commissions for both fine art and illustration.

Below, I've provided answers to hopefully most of the questions you might have about commissioning me for fine art. For illustration work, contact me directly to discuss exact requirements and time-scales.

Where do I start?

The first thing to do is to contact me by e-mail and let me know that you are interested in commissioning a piece of art. We can then organise a time when we can talk and discuss your requirements, and I can answer any questions that you may still have. You will then be able to decide if you wish to proceed or not.

Can I have a copy of one of your existing paintings?

I prefer my work to be one-off's. However, if there is something that you really like, I can do something very similar to the piece that is of interest to you.

Can you paint from a photo I have?

Yes. I can work from photos (digital or printed) assuming that they are of good enough quality and clearly show the subject. You will also need to be the copyright owner of the photograph for me to make a painting from it.

How long will it take?

This will depend on the size and detail of the painting required and whether or not I already have a commission, or other work, in progress. As a ball-park, you should allow up to 12 weeks for your painting to completed.

The time-frame for the completion of the commission will be agreed up-front, before any work starts.

Will I get to see how my painting is progressing?

Absolutely. I will put up a 'work-in-progress' page for your commission so that you can see how the painting is getting on. This page will only be available to you and no-one else. I will provide you with the link once the commission is started. Also, I will let you know every time I update your page. Once the commission is finished and you have taken shipment of it, a photo of the work will be placed on my gallery page.

How much will it cost?

This will depend on how large you want the painting to be and the extent of the detail required. Essentially, the more detail a painting has the longer it takes to paint. My commissioned work has a starting price of €400 for work on a 51cm x 41cm canvas (20 x 16 inches).

The full price of the commission will be agreed up-front, before any work starts.

When do I pay?

Once the price has been agreed, a 30% deposit will be required up-front. The balance will be payable once the work is complete, before the work is shipped.

How do I pay?

For paying on-line I can provide a Paypal account. Alternatively, from Ireland, you can send me a personal cheque. From abroad, you would need to send an international bankers draft, made out in Euro to the required amount and cashable in an Irish bank.

How will you send it to me?

The work will be bubble-wrapped, re-enforced and sent using registered postage. If necessary the work can be couriered.

Please be aware that the shipping cost, and insurance, is in addition to the cost of the commission itself. I will be able to provide an indicative cost of the shipping/insurance before any work gets started.

What if you cannot complete the commission?

In the event that I cannot complete your commission, I will return your deposit to you.

What if I'm not happy with the work?

I want you to be absolutely delighted with your piece of art! Hence, I think it is important that you can see how the work is progessing on a regular basis. However, if you are really not happy with the completed piece before shipping, then you are not obliged to make the balance of the payment.

In the event that you are not satisfied with work once you do take delivery of it, please send it back and I will fully refund the shipping fee and the balance of the payment.
